Meet Matthew Coleman; Account Coordinator at RocketBrand

What is your background?

My background is mostly in experiential and promotional marketing. Prior to this position, I was the Area Marketing Manager for BODYARMOR Sports Drink. While there, I led promotional marketing teams all over the Midwest in order to showcase the BODYARMOR brand to consumers. Prior to BODYARMOR, most of my experience had been working in sports marketing.

What drew you to a career in marketing and advertising?

I fell into a career in marketing and advertising. My first internship was working a marketing program for Dr. Pepper and Sonic and since then it was something that I was drawn to. After quite some time, advertising seemed like the next natural step for me to take.

What’s your favorite part about working at RocketBrand?

So far my favorite part about working at RocketBrand is the overall relaxed environment of the office. Everyone works hard and creates amazing work, and I feel like that is a definite product of the fact that no one is micro-managed and mistakes are expected.

What do you do outside of work?

I am a jack of all trades these days. My time spent outside of work bounces between working out, binge-watching anime on Crunchyroll, poor woodworking, and sports. I’m also a massive video game fan. If I don’t play at least once a day, my life begins to fall apart a tiny bit.

What’s the best vacation you’ve ever been on?

The best vacation that I have ever been on was my Disney World trip back in early 2016. My girlfriend had been dying to go, and when I told her that we were going she lit up like a Christmas tree. I had an amazing time running through all the parks with her living like little kids again.

Whats your guilty pleasure movie or show?

Gilmore Girls.

Best Dallas BBQ?

Homemade. My uncle is an absolute monster with his smoker.

What music are you currently listening to?

A lot of trap remixes of everything. Trap Nation on YouTube is my background noise.

What inspires you?

Tenacity. Seeing someone being able to show their determination and really grind things out is amazing.

What advice would you give someone looking to get into Marketing and Advertising?

Your start can come from anywhere at any given point. Don’t hesitate to take an odd job. Most of those odd jobs give you the skills and knowledge to take on the next big one.
