Meet Emily Smith; Account Executive at RocketBrand

What is your background?

My background is a varied one, but has been the perfect path leading me to RocketBrand. My degree is in graphic design from California State University, Sacramento. I was immediately drawn to the agency world and joined a startup marketing firm in San Francisco. I worked in design for several years before transitioning my focus to the account side, where I could focus more on client relationships and liaise with different creative teams.

In 2013 my personal life took me from California to Texas, where I entered the commercial real estate industry, marketing Class-A Office assets. I’ve spent the last six years working for one of the top CRE services firms, but recently felt called back to agency life. Having partnered with RocketBrand on successful projects over the past few years, it was a natural fit to extend our partnership and join their team. I couldn’t be more excited for this new chapter!

What drew you to a career in marketing and advertising?

Marketing and Advertising has always appealed to me because I enjoy the process of creating beautiful and meaningful pieces and watching them at work. There’s nothing that compares to seeing the success of a campaign unfolding in real time.

What’s your favorite part about working at RocketBrand?

I love the sense of community and collaboration. Even as a client, I always felt they were an extension of my own internal team. And now, in this awkward time of having to on-board virtually, while sheltering-in-place, I couldn’t feel more connected.

What do you do outside of work?

I’m a self-proclaimed foodie so I’m constantly trying new restaurants – which, in Dallas there is never a shortage. And when I run out of places here, that’s when I book my next weekend getaway!

You can also find me getting my sweat on at the gym or around the trail, and hanging with my pup in the sun.

What’s the best vacation you’ve ever been on?

A trip to Costa Rica was a top one… My best friend, who lives in CA, and I met up out there, so it was amazing to get some fun girl time by the beach – or on the surface of a volcano. I loved the vast and changing landscape across the country, the incredibly generous and friendly people we met, and adopting Flor de Caña as my go-to drink for a week!

What’s your guilty pleasure movie or show?

The latest train-wreck on Netflix… Tiger King. Can’t look away!

Best Dallas BBQ?

Terry Blacks in Deep Ellum, especially with that patio and their Black Margarita!

What music are you currently listening to?

My musical selection is all over the place. I generally have some random atmospheric beats playing throughout the day when I’m working. And then it’s 90’s Hip Hop when I need to turn up the energy (or start a dance party)!

What inspires you?

I’m inspired by working with kick ass people – luckily that’s exactly what I’m surrounded by here at RocketBrand.

What advice you’d give someone looking to get into Marketing and Advertising?

Dive in! There are so many facets to what makes this industry go round; if it’s something you are interested in being a part of, there is likely a place for you. But be ready to give it your all and develop a thick skin. This work is not for the faint of heart.
